True to the original: a new Ford Mustang was presented

by time news

Ford unveiled tonight (Wednesday) in Detroit the seventh generation of the Ford Mustang, almost sixty years after the original car that became an object of admiration among driving enthusiasts all over the world. The Mustang was presented in a coupe and cabriolet body with a wide range of innovations in the field of performance, equipment and also the driving and user experience, however, as far as the electric age is concerned, the Mustang, in complete contradiction to the industry, keeps a great distance from batteries, electric motors and complicated electronics and remains as close as possible to its nuclear roots.

Thinking about the driver structure loyal to the Mustang community over all its generations, Ford does not distort the classic contours of the Mustang and maintains a long, low body with large wheel arches and a dominant stance on the road that is an evolution of the Mustang from 2005. It is based on a new floor which it shares with the Ford Explorer, based on rear-wheel drive and with reduced weight, upgraded structural rigidity and improved components on the two axles and the chassis body itself.

It has not yet been announced if there has been a significant growth in dimensions, but on the surface it seems that the proportions are quite the same as the outgoing generation. Inside the passenger cabin, on the other hand, a radical revolution took place in quality, human engineering and the work environment, with full emphasis on huge 13.2-inch monitors (2 monitors connected together) on the Sync-4 system and a small number of controls. One detail that perhaps reflects Ford’s forward-thinking is the invention of a manual handbrake rather than a switch-operated electronic handbrake. Apart from that, the equipment list includes a lot of new features, safety systems, comfort and a cool gadget – the possibility to play with the columns remotely using the car’s remote control.

In 2017, Ford announced that there would be a hybrid version or a slightly electrified edition of the Mustang, but for now, the project has been shelved until further notice. The seventh-generation Mustang continues with regular gasoline engines and a six-speed manual transmission as standard or a 10-speed automatic. The entry-level engine will be a 2.3 L Turbo Ecoboost four-cylinder with a power of about 330 hp and above it a V8 engine with a volume of 5.0 L atmospheric with a power of about 500 hp. The latter will, as far as is known, be the most powerful engine in the history of the (regular) Mustang since the founding of the dynasty in 1964, although performance figures have not been officially released by the manufacturer.

Ford’s performance division made sure to handle with a skilled hand all the aspects involved in going down the tracks or turning the wheel on the winding roads; The gearbox has gas-intermediate control for optimal adjustment of the torque curve, reinforced brakes have been installed and there is also a selective driving selector with six distinct calibration modes, including drift control. Paid packages like GT or Performance also add Brembo brakes, Recaro sports seats, enlarged discs and more.

“Investing in another generation of Mustang is a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the internal combustion vehicle business,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford. ICE (acronym for Internal Combustion Engine in Hebrew), adds connected technology, and hybrid options to our most profitable and popular cars – all in the Ford Blue family – in addition to investing $50 billion in electric vehicles by 2026.”

The new Mustang will be available for purchase starting in the summer of 2023, and will continue to roll off Ford’s production line in Michigan. Estimated prices in the US will start in the region of $33,000 and up to $60,000 for the most powerful and well-equipped models. As you know, the Mustang is not regularly imported to Israel, even though a few years ago the issue was discussed at Delek Motors but was ultimately ruled out.
