An indictment was filed today (Thursday) against Dr. Anwar Abu Arer, a 45-year-old surgeon in Soroka from the settlement of Omar who broke the law again and again, committed a long series of serious traffic violations, drove while disqualified and even threatened the policemen who arrested him.

For example, on 17.09.21, Dr. Abu Arer was involved in an accident in which a person was killed and his license was suspended for 90 days.

Despite the difficult circumstances in which his license was taken away, Abu Arer did not hesitate and continued to drive with disqualification. On 06.03.22 he was caught driving while disqualified for the first time after his license was revoked following the fatal accident in which he was involved. In this case (6.3) he was released by the court under restrictive conditions.

Today, on 15.09.22, the surgeon was seen again by traffic police at Beersheba station while driving in the city while holding a mobile phone and driving illegally for the second time.

The Arab doctor was questioned by the traffic examiners of the Negev region. He was arrested and brought before a court today and an indictment was filed against him.

The police demanded that his detention be extended until the end of the proceedings, but the hospital extended the doctor’s detention until next Sunday only. His vehicle was disabled for 60 days.

Corporal Haim Chen, traffic officer of the Negev region: “These are life-threatening offenses while trampling and disregarding the provisions of the law and the court, and therefore we saw an urgent need to exhaust the law with the suspect today by filing an indictment with the Negev Traffic Claims and requesting his arrest until the end of the legal proceedings.”

Inspector Attorney Victoria Gronov, Head of the Negev Region Traffic Accident Investigation Department, said that Dr. Abu Arer threatened to give him negative treatment when he arrives to receive treatment at Soroka Hospital: “With the arrest of the suspect, I ordered the police to handcuff him according to procedures. So turn to me and tell me that even when you need to come to Soroka, I will follow the same procedures with you.”
