Qatar National Human Rights Commission appreciation for foreign workers

Qatar National Human Rights Forum praises foreign workers who participated in World Cup infrastructure development projects. The forum also asked the companies to come up with plans to allow the rights of the youth for sports activities.

A two-day forum was organized by the National Human Rights Committee in association with Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Sports and Youth, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and UN Human Rights Training and Documents Center on the theme: Role of Law Institutions in Ensuring Human Rights during World Cup Football.

The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee, Maryam bint Abdullah Al Atiyya, said that the World Cup hosted by Qatar will be an unparalleled tournament in history and that the Qatar World Cup will become a model for future sports championships. Along with this, the forum also asked the companies to come forward to take steps to make the World Cup enjoyable for the workers as well.

Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary General of the National Human Rights Committee, said in the closing session that he commends the Qatari government for establishing Law No. 10 of 2021, issued in connection with the 2022 World Cup, and that this is an important and highly characteristic law related to the control of the public during the tournament period.
