The BCCI introduced the concept of ‘Impact Player’ in domestic Twenty20 competition, mainly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The concept, effective from this season, will make the format more attractive and interesting. Teams can also come up with more strategies
The BCCI’s new idea is inspired by substitution rules from other games like football, rugby and basketball, where teams participating in a T20 match can field a substitute from their playing eleven.
Currently, a substitute player is allowed to field only in case of injury. Under the new concept, the substitute player can bat and ball like a normal playing member. The impact player should come to the team XI before the completion of the 14th over.
Currently, this will be an experimental phase. It will be tested in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament starting from October 11.
