At the same time, with the addition of Iran as a full member of the SCO, the total membership became nine. Until now the permanent members were China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iranian President Ebrahim Rayi also held a special meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Iran said it had entered a new phase of economic, trade, transport and energy cooperation after becoming a full member of the SCO to discuss countermeasures against the United States.
Iran became a permanent member of the SCO to overcome the severe sanctions of the West, including the US. Iranian President Ibrahim Rai told Putin that many problems can be solved if Iran, Russia and China, which are under US embargo, stand together. It is also special that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time at the SCO meeting. Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that he will provide all possible support to protect Iran’s rights.
