Nissan has announced a recall for more than 200,000 Frontier and Titan pickup trucks because they may shift or roll even after the driver puts the transmission in park, the company said in an official statement last night (Friday).

An initial recall for 2020 to 2022 vehicles was announced in June, but Nissan has expanded the recall to include vehicles from the 2023 model year. The problem is related to a defective part inside the transmission, called the park button, which is supposed to prevent the vehicle from moving when it is put into park. The automaker has discovered that there is still a problem with the parking cap in vehicles manufactured since the initial recall was announced.

Nissan is currently developing a fix for the problem, but says that in the meantime, owners should use the parking brake whenever they park their vehicle. Once a remedy is available, owners can take their trucks to a Nissan dealer for a free repair.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the NHTSA website and no recall appears, it means your vehicle does not currently have an open recall. Because automakers issue recalls frequently, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see if your vehicle has been issued a recall.
