The case was perhaps a little too good. But Alexandra thought she had little to lose. At the end of 2020, the factory worker, based in Belgium, wanted to treat herself to a box of sweets for the modest sum of one euro, as the influencer Maeva Ghennam promised on social networks. “I wanted to buy them for my sons,” the 32-year-old reality TV fan recalls. The boys, however, did not have the joy of tasting the sweets at a low price. Instead, the mother of the family received three mysterious direct debit requests on her French bank card, amounting to 90.70 euros each – fortunately prevented by her bank.
