by time news

India’s Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships held in Sofia.

With this, he became the first Indian to win a medal 4 times in the World Championship. He beat C. Rivera of Puerto Rico 11-9 in the bronze medal round of the men’s 65 kg category. Earlier, Bajrang Punia lost to America’s John Michael Diagomihalis in the quarterfinals of this weight division.

Then Bajrang got a repechage round based on John Michael advancing to the finals. First, Bajrang defeated Armenia’s Vasken Devanyan 7-6 and beat Rivera in the medal round.

This is Bajrang’s 3rd bronze medal at the World Championships. Before this he has won bronze in 2013, silver in 2018 and bronze in 2019. In the current season, India has fielded a team of 30 teams in both the men’s and women’s categories, but it has been disappointing to get only 2 bronze medals. Apart from Bajrang Punia, it is noteworthy that Vinesh Bogat won bronze in the women’s category.

Prime Minister’s Greetings: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated both Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Bogad who won medals in the World Championship.
