Xinhua news agency reported, citing data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), that the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox nationwide had reached nearly 24,000 as of Monday.

The center said California currently had the highest number of monkey pox cases at 4,656, followed by New York at 3,755 and Florida at 2,398.

Monkey pox infections are not fatal. Most cases heal on their own within two to four weeks, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has a mortality rate of about 3-6%, but those with immunocompromise are more likely to develop serious illness. when infected

U.S. health officials have warned doctors not to rely too much on a single drug to treat chickenpox. This is because the virus is usually continually mutating to infect humans. It can better overcome new drugs and vaccines.

The US Food and Drug Administration warned that antiviral drug tecovirimat (tecovirimat) has a high risk of developing drug resistance. Even a small mutation in the virus can render the drug ineffective.
