Why Jarasch and Giffey find each other difficult

by time news

BerlinThe Berlin red-green-green coalitionaries in spe have made progress in their first negotiating group. The management trio of Franziska Giffey, Bettina Jarasch and Klaus Lederer works on the principles. And that includes a preamble, an introduction, so to speak, the studbook for every coalition agreement. But the statements about this preamble once again made it clear how close and far the future coalition partners are at the same time. And that raises questions.

Everyone agrees that a functioning, citizen-friendly administration is the be-all and end-all. You want to be measured by this, you are fully responsible for it. This is said above all by Franziska Giffey, as the former district mayor, the only one from the trio who knows from her own experience about the pitfalls of organized irresponsibility between the state and the districts.

But be careful: What sounds like a matter of course can turn into a boomerang. Anyone who underestimates this topic has already lost. Had the old Müller Senate not been voted out long ago, by declaring its own lack of responsibility after the breakdown election (“We are only spectators”), it would have made itself impossible for good.

It is good that someone is leading the way on this subject. At the same time, everyone knows how much the designated governing mayor likes the role of the go-getter, who is optimistic but also emphatically sober. And that harbors dangers within the alliance. So when Franziska Giffey says, “We don’t always need new blooming dreams”, then the Greens will feel primarily addressed. What will become of Bullerbü then?
