The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchezwas offered this Monday UN Secretary General Antonio Guterresto collaborate as much as possible in order to achieve multilateral agreements in the face of crises such as the food or energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

Sánchez began his agenda with Guterres in New York, where he will remain until next Thursday to speak at the opening of the 77th session of the United Nations Assembly and in another series of events organized on the margins of that event.

The head of the Spanish Executive and the Secretary General of the UN have already held several meetings in recent years to analyze the situation of this organization and its actions in the face of problems such as the climate changethe coronavirus pandemic or, more recently, the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine.

Both interlocutors commented that the effects of the war in the heart of Europe are causing a gap between western countries and those that are called from the on global, since they have gone through a very difficult stage due to the pandemic and have not had the same health means or the same financial capacity to face them. The rise in prices derived from the war in Ukraine entails in all of them an evident malaise.

Sánchez recognized Guterres’ leadership and applauded his initiatives to reach an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain and the creation of a group to respond to the global food, energy and financial crisis.

It was in this context that he made himself available to the UN Secretary General to collaborate in every way possible to promote multilateral agreements related to these crises.
