The chairman of the election committee rejected the Likud’s request to prevent the live broadcast of Prime Minister Lapid’s speech at the UN General Assembly. He also criticizes the short notice in submitting the request, even though the timing of the speech was known in advance.

As I recall, Likud submitted a petition against Yesh Atid, Keshet Broadcasting, Network Broadcasting and here the Israel Broadcasting Corporation, demanding to prevent the live broadcast of Lapid’s speech at the UN General Assembly and to pause it for 10 minutes, as was done with various Netanyahu speeches in the past during election periods .

The Likud’s request states: “In accordance with Section 5(a) of the Elections Law (Propaganda Methods), 559-1959, there will be no election propaganda during the 60 days before the Knesset election day. We are 38 days before the Knesset election day, so the restriction applies to the broadcasts of Lapid’s speech.”

“The delivery of the speech in the midst of the election campaign and the nature of some of its contents being published substantiates a high level of concern that Lapid’s speech will also include election propaganda,” they added, “in order to prevent a live broadcast of election propaganda, the speech must be broadcast with a 10-minute delay.”
