Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s electricity demand has exceeded 16,500 megawatts due to scorching heat like summer for a few days. More electricity has been procured from solar power plants than ever before.

Tamil Nadu’s electricity demand is 15 thousand megawatts on average every morning and evening; At other times it is around 14 thousand mega watt. This increases during the summer months of March, April and May. According to this, on April 29th this year at 2:30 pm, the electricity demand increased to 17 thousand, 563 mega watts. This is the highest ever.

Many districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram received rain in August. Due to this, the electricity demand decreased and was at the usual level of 15,000 megawatts daily. In this situation, the heat has been high for a week as it has been scorching like summer. Due to this, the use of ‘AC’ has increased in the houses and the demand for electricity is increasing.

The day before yesterday, the power demand exceeded 16,500 megawatts. At 6:40 p.m. that evening, the power demand was 16,537 megawatts. Yesterday morning, the power demand was 15,500 megawatts. Enough power was available from central, state government and private power plants to meet the demand.

Again feat

Private companies have set up 5,200 MW solar power plants in Tamil Nadu. Electricity produced by them is purchased by the Electricity Board at a price fixed by the Electricity Regulatory Commission. On the 13th of this month, the Electricity Board set a record by purchasing 3,658 megawatts of electricity from solar power stations, the highest ever. This record was broken on the 21st. On that day, an unprecedented amount of 3,782 megawatts of solar power was procured.
