A protest demonstration was held in front of the Tamil Nadu Grama Bank head office in Astampatti area of ​​Salem district. This demonstration was held on behalf of Tamilnadu Grama Bank Officers Association, Tamilnadu Grama Bank Workers Union and Retired Parents Organizations demanding various demands.

The protest was led by Grama Bank Officers Association President Ando Football. In the protest, it was said that village banks should be freed from the hold of sponsor banks and a national village bank should be formed, promotions and new working arrangements should be made in all village banks on the basis of Mitra Committee.

In addition, they said that in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order of equal pay for equal work, minimum wages should be paid to temporary employees and should be given on a compassionate basis like in commercial banks.

Further, the Tamil Nadu Grama Bank employees went on strike demanding the full implementation of the 11th Bilateral Agreement in the Grama Banks, the withdrawal of the new pension scheme and the implementation of the old pension scheme.

Not only that, there are 43 banks operating across India, 22 thousand branches are operating across the country, Grama Bank is the largest banking company with an annual budget of 10 lakh crores, and 649 branches are operating in all districts in Tamil Nadu alone. They also demanded that the employees of Tamil Nadu Grama Bank should be treated like other bank employees.
