New York: At the ministerial meeting of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as the tensions continue, including on the border issue, Foreign Minister S. Jayashankar attended. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also attended the meeting.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of South Africa in connection with the 77th UN General Assembly in New York. Security and economic issues among the BRICS countries were discussed in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Jaishankar, who will attend more than 50 meetings this week, will not hold bilateral talks with China. Yesterday, Jaishankar had criticized China’s continuous blocking of India’s moves in the UN to impose sanctions on Pakistani terrorists in the UN Security Council meeting. The BRICS ministerial meeting was held after this.

Jaishankar also attended a special meeting of foreign ministers of Germany, Brazil and Japan in the G4 group. The meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress on UN Security Council expansion. Jaishankar also met with foreign ministers of countries like Mexico, Paraguay, Moldova and Saudi Arabia.
