The decision to purchase new missiles comes due to the need of the United Arab Emirates to strengthen its air defense system against a possible threat from Iran, as well as from neighboring Dubai and Saudi Arabia, as well as rebels from Yemen.

Rafael intends, apparently since the Ministry of Defense has not yet confirmed the news, to sell its Spyder system which is mounted on top of trucks, allowing easy movement and extensive deployment of the system as needed. This Union country is not the only country that purchased the Spider system and in the past it was sold to India and the Czech Republic. According to rumors it was also sold to Vietnam and Singapore.
