Nagpur: The fans were disappointed when the second match of the T20 series against Australia was stopped due to rain. The tens of thousands who came to the ground to see India avenge their defeat in Mohali and the lakhs of fans who watched the match on television were equally disappointed by the rain-soaked game. Although the rain stopped during the match, the reason for the delay in the start of the match was that the outfield of the ground was soaked due to the rain that fell till the afternoon.

The umpires started the match only after the ground was fully prepared as playing on a wet outfield increased the risk of injury to the players. With this the match had to be reduced to eight overs each. The match which was supposed to start at 7 o’clock started at 9.30. At least the eight-over match was made possible by the ground staff’s tireless efforts to set up the ground match. After the match, captain Rohit Sharma appreciated the efforts of the ground staff while coach Rahul Dravid congratulated them in person.

But fans were intrigued by the fact that the ground staff used everything from hair dryers to irons to dry the outfield before the start of the match. The BCCI, despite being one of the richest sports organizations in the world, has not been able to provide facilities or equipment to dry the ground, and the fans have criticized the BCCI in harsh language. The question asked by the fans was whether the BCCI is not ashamed of not being able to provide proper drainage facilities at the ground despite having so much money.

Anyway, the only consolation is that the fans who bought tickets to watch the 20-over match got to see at least the 8-over match. And the fact that India won and tied the series also made them excited. The Aussies, who batted first, scored 90 runs in eight overs, leaving four balls to spare and India reached the target with the loss of four wickets.
