Chennai: In connection with the series of incidents of petrol bombs being thrown at the houses and offices of BJP leaders and cases of smuggling of ganja through trains, the police are conducting intensive surveillance with the help of sniffer dogs at the railway stations.

“Railway police are carrying out thorough checks on all trains arriving at the platforms at Chennai Central Railway Station and checking the belongings of the passengers arriving at the stations for explosives and mysterious items.

The railway police are also conducting intensive checks to prevent the smuggling of ganja from foreign states to Tamil Nadu through trains. Accordingly, daily, with the help of sniffer dogs, the police conduct checks on railway station platforms and trains.

Superintendent of Railway Police Athveera Pandian personally inspected the security measures of the Railway Police at the Central Railway Station yesterday and gave instructions to the Railway Police. In an interview given to the media at that time, he said: We are constantly searching the suspicious persons coming in the trains and checking their belongings. Surveillance operations have been intensified with the help of sniffer dogs and bomb experts to detect any suspicious material in the coaches.

Likewise, security work has been accelerated at all railway stations including Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Nellai, Coimbatore, Virudhunagar. 356 railway police in Trichy district and 410 railway police in Chennai district have been engaged in security and surveillance work.
