Samsung is working on a dual camera at the bottom of the screen that supports facial recognition!

by time news

The latest leaks revealed that Samsung obtained a patent for a dual camera technology at the bottom of the screen that supports facial recognition to secure the phone.

This information comes from a document monitored by a Dutch website that shows the South Korean company filing a patent application to KIPRIS (Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) in March 2021, to certify a new face recognition technology via two cameras at the bottom of the screen.

According to the schematic diagram of the new technology, it appears that Samsung will rely on two cameras, one at the top of the screen and the other at the bottom of the screen, to get multiple images of the user from two different angles to create a better 3D model of the face that offers a higher level of security.

This method can only be achieved by using two cameras far from each other, which is the advantage provided by the cameras at the bottom of the screen.

Where the two cameras can be placed in separate areas at the bottom of the screen without sticking them next to each other, as we see in the current phones.

In the design adopted by Samsung here, we find that it has chosen to place a camera in the middle of the screen from the top, and the other in the middle of the screen from the bottom.

To get a better angle for shooting without distorting the appearance of the phone because both cameras are below the screen and will not affect the shape of the front of the phone.

Will we see facial recognition technology via a dual camera at the bottom of the screen on Samsung phones soon?

So far, Samsung has not expanded the use of the camera at the bottom of the screen, and we have seen this technology on the Galaxy Fold foldable phones only.

Samsung has not adopted the technology in its other phones, including its flagship Galaxy S series.

Therefore, experts speculate that the facial recognition technology using a dual camera at the bottom of the screen may be specific to Samsung’s foldable phones only.

However the illustration shows using a regular phone and not a foldable phone.

Currently, it is difficult to predict Samsung’s intention to implement the new technology, but you find that this is an early stage in the development of the technology and is just a prototype, and it may take years until we see it on a real phone.
