Devotees from Boda, Panjbir, Maria and Bangari regions of Panchagarh district of Bangladesh traveled by boat to Botheshwari temple to participate in Durga Puja.
The initial information was that 24 people, including 8 children and 12 women, drowned when their boat, which was traveling in Karatoya river, capsized due to heavy load.
More than 25 people are still missing and the death toll is feared to rise.
In this case, the death toll in the boat overturned accident has increased to 49, officials said.
Bangladesh President Abdul Hameed and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their condolences to the families of those who died in the boat accident.
