The 36th National Games will officially begin in Gujarat on Tuesday after 7 years.
These games, known as the Indian Olympics, are being held in Gujarat for the first time. The matches that were to be held in Goa in 2020 were postponed due to Corona.
Cycling competition is held in 6 cities including Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Baroda, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and New Delhi. National competitions were held in Lahore for the first time in united India in 1924. It was called the Indian Olympic Games till 1938.
7,000 men and women compete for medals in 36 categories at the Gujarat National Championships. Go-go, mallar kampam and yogasana are featured for the first time.
Table tennis division matches were conducted and concluded early. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu and Bajrang Punia did not participate due to injury.
However Mirabhai Sanu (Weightlifting), Lovelina Borokai (Boxing), Srihari Natraj (Swimming), Doothi Chandu, Hima Das, Amalan, Murali Sreesang, Annurani, Jyoti Yaraji (Athletics) Lakshya Sen, Pranai (Badminton), Manu Pak (Shooting) ), Adanu Das (archery), and others are also participating.
In the last national competition held in Kerala in 2015, Chavez topped the list with 159 medals, with Kerala and Haryana second and third. Kerala’s Sajan Prakash won the most medals with 6 gold and 2 silver. The competitions will end on October 12.
