Pollachi: There are three villages in Athupollachi Panchayat under Anaimalai Panchayat Union, namely Kaliyappakundan Pudhar, Manakadau and Athupollachi. Water is taken from Azhiyar river and drinking water is distributed. Near the place where water is taken from the river, sewage from the houses of the panchayat also mixes.
Due to this, there has been a complaint that water mixed with sewage is not taken, treated properly and distributed. People said: For the drinking water needs of Athupollachi, the panchayat administration used to clean the water taken from the river till a few years ago in the drainage field, store it in the lower reservoir and distribute it. After failure, the water from the river is taken directly to the tank and distributed to the houses without treatment. Thus, drinking the distributed drinking water causes various physical ailments.
The panchayat administration should take care of this problem, repair the drainage area, purify drinking water and supply it, or get purified drinking water from Kurichi–Kuniyamuthar project and distribute it to the panchayat. We have been requesting for Rs 10 lakh to renovate the house for three years. Due to non-allocation of funds, the work could not be done,’ he said.
