A press release issued by Chief Minister M K Stalin on the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day said that saving precious human lives through blood donation is a sacred act. National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is celebrated on the first Monday of October every year to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation. Tamilnadu government is creating awareness about the importance of blood donation. Every person has about five liters of blood in their body.

But during blood donation, only 350 ml of blood is taken. It takes only 20 minutes to donate blood. Also, one unit of donated blood can save three lives by donating blood at regular intervals, thus new cells are formed in the body and their health is protected. Blood can be donated at Government Blood Donation Centers and Voluntary Blood Donation Camps A website called e-Raktkosh is in operation to monitor the activities of blood centers.

People can use this site to donate blood whenever they need. Also last year 90% blood was collected through government and private blood donation centers and Tamil Nadu is the pioneer state in India in voluntary blood donation. In this situation, Tamil Nadu is aiming for 100% voluntary blood donation in Nataband and all the public should come forward to do voluntary blood donation in large numbers to save precious lives.
