Davis said she took the role of Heard seriously and wanted to bring some “understanding, love and compassion” to portraying the reviled actress. “It’s hard, because you want so much to feel like whoever sees it, they’ll feel seen and they’ll feel understood,” Davis explained. “And for me, part of my choice to take the role was because I felt that there were many things that I saw in her and heard from her, that I understood and saw how the world treats this real person. I felt that if there was an opportunity that I could maybe bring some understanding, love and compassion to this person, that’s what I think An artist wants to do.”
