As modern technologies continue to evolve, innovation is gaining importance. Innovation activities are fundamental to entrepreneurship. The countries of the world are continuously taking steps to promote innovative research in schools and colleges.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) conducts an annual survey of how countries are performing in innovation. Based on the survey for the current year, the organization has released the International Innovation Index (GII).
India has improved by 6 places compared to last year. This is the first time that India, currently ranked 40th, has made it to the top 40 list of the index. More specifically, India was ranked 81st in the International Innovation Index in 2015. Now it has progressed to the 40th place.
This progress is attributed to India’s growth in various sectors including educational institutions, research, basic infrastructure development, favorable environment for business start-up and development of modern technologies.
