The Jerusalem Municipality established a new preschool center, the first of its kind in East Jerusalem, which brings together many programs from a variety of fields in response to a series of needs. Mayor Moshe Leon participated this morning, Sunday, in the festive opening ceremony of the new center in the Shuafat neighborhood. During the ceremony, the mothers talked about the contribution of the service, and there was an open discussion with the professionals.

“The goal of the center is to make available to young families a complete and extended solution that includes: parent training, support groups, joint activities for parents and children, enrichment, a developmental unit – with comprehensive care and support under one roof,” the municipality says. “The new preschool center in the eastern part of the city will significantly reduce unnecessary burdens and prolonged gifts and will allow young families important and high-quality services to ensure the proper development of the children close to their area of residence.”
It should be noted that the center opened in Shuafat is the seventh that the Jerusalem Municipality has established in recent years.
It was also reported that “for the first time, all the relevant professional bodies joined this move: the Arab Education Division, the Public Health and Early Childhood Division, the National 360 Program, the Welfare Division, the Psychological Service, the Community Centers, the Public Structure Division and the Ministry of Education.”
It should be noted that in recent years an unprecedented revolution has been taking place in the field of early childhood in the eastern part of the city, as a direct result of a significant investment (budgetary and professional) in the development of programs and the expansion of support for young families. Among the services provided at the center are birth and parenting preparation programs, mothering centers, parenting workshops, individual counseling for parents, games, programs to encourage reading and more.
The breakthrough includes the development of an expanded set of professional services for families with preschool children and professionals as well as the planning and construction of 8 new day care centers. The level of response and the number of participants in the variety of programs is unprecedented and beyond expectations. Today hundreds of young families regularly use the service.
Mayor Moshe Leon: “Young families are at the forefront of our minds and we make sure to develop for them services adapted to their unique needs. We will continue and invest in the development of services for young families and for preschoolers, in all parts of the city, with the understanding that tailored treatment in the early stages will prevent more complex difficulties and challenges later on.”
