In Rezé, residents vote “yes” to the creation of a municipal police

by time news

It was one of the few French cities of this size not to have municipal police. This will soon no longer be the case. In Rezé (43,000 inhabitants), on the southern outskirts of Nantes, the “yes” to the creation of a municipal police largely won on Sunday evening. The voters, who were invited to “give their opinion on the reinforcement of the human presence in the public space” said “yes” to the recruitment of agents having the status of municipal police officers with 71.85% of the votes.

“The municipality will apply the vote, whatever it is”, had warned the town hall various left. It should therefore hire eight municipal agents made up of mediators, public road surveillance agents (ASVP) and, therefore, municipal police officers. The latter will not be armed, had also indicated the municipality.

It should be noted that the participation in this original consultation was extremely disappointing since only 20% of the voters of the region turned out at the polls on Sunday.
