There are four prize categories, the last being reserved for Qatari residents, and fans can buy a maximum of six tickets per match, sixty for the entire competition (20 November – 18 December). At the end of the penultimate sales phase, 2.45 million tickets had already been sold out of the 3 million available. There are therefore still a little more than 550,000 places to share.
Opened last January, the ticket office was a great success according to Fifa. The governing body of world football had identified 17 million requests for tickets during the first phase of sales and 23.5 million during the second wave. While the number of places is limited to 3,010,679, a draw has been organized to sort out football fans. In June, 1.2 million sesames had already been sold. In early July, the total rose to 1.8 million.
More than a million visitors are expected in Qatar, a country of 2.8 million inhabitants, despite the controversies targeting the tournament. In August, the international federation had drawn up the list of the most buying supporters by country of residence. Fans living in Qatar, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, France, Argentina, Brazil and Germany topped the ticket sales charts.
