The Netherlands will have considerably more cancer patients in the coming years. Until 2032, the number of diagnoses will increase by a third to 156,000 per year, excluding common conditions such as skin cancer and pre-cancerous breast cancer. The lion’s share can no longer be prevented with prevention. This was reported by the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Netherlands on Tuesday. The increase is mainly due to ‘double ageing’: more elderly people, who are getting older. Another cause is lifestyle. The researchers advise doing more on prevention, such as reducing smoking and obesity. The risk of dying from cancer decreases. (NRC)
