DECRYPTION – For the first time, the national perinatal survey is interested in the two months following childbirth.
It is a photograph of the conditions of birth in France, taken every five years for about thirty years. The 2021 Inserm-Public Health France national perinatal survey, conducted among 12,723 women in mainland France (the results for the overseas territories will come later), has just been published. This 6e edition has the particularity of having been conducted with women who gave birth in March 2021, i.e. in the midst of the Covid pandemic.
It is also distinguished by a new component dedicated to monitoring women and their babies two months after birth. In particular, it reveals that 16.7% of women have symptoms of postpartum depression (based on the EPDS rating scale) and that an additional 12.6% have some of these symptoms.
