Mandya: Savarkar’s picture was displayed on the banner of the party welcoming Congress MP Rahul, who is on a walk in Karnataka, causing a stir in the party. It is noteworthy that a welcome banner with Savarkar’s picture had already been put up in Kerala.

Members of RSS and BJP used to praise the freedom fighter Savarkar. At the same time, frequent criticism of Congressman Savarkar was a regular thing. But now Congress is also using Savarkar’s photo in their party events. Congress MP Rahul is currently walking a distance of 3,500 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in the name of Unity Pilgrimage.

In the Ernakulam district of Kerala, a banner placed to welcome Rahul during his walk had Savarkar’s picture printed along with photographs of Abul Kalam Azad, Rabindranath Tagore and others. Amidst this controversy, Mahatma Gandhi’s picture was replaced by Savarkar’s picture.

Now, Rahul is trekking in Karnataka. Rahul’s walk is seen as important as it is one of the states where the Congress is strong and elections will be held here next year. Due to this, large welcome banners have been placed in many places. A banner featuring Savarkar’s picture again has sparked controversy. The banner in Mandya has pictures of Rahul, Karnataka Congress president TK Sivakumar and Siddaramaiah along with Savarkar’s picture.

The banner was said to be held by Shanti Nagar Congress MLA Nalapat Ahmed Haris. But Nalabat Ahmed Haris has denied this and said, “Some foreign forces have deliberately used my name and put up such a banner. I am going to file a complaint with the Mandya police in this regard,’ he said. He also informed that steps are being taken to remove the banner.
