Tragedy in Jerusalem: A 41-year-old man drowned today, Friday, in a purification mikvah on Ein Yaakov Street in the Mea Shearim neighborhood. Medical teams that were called to the scene performed CPR on him, but were eventually forced to pronounce him dead.

Israel Wells and Nathaniel Schwartz, the ‘Rescue Team’ drivers who arrived first on the scene, say: “When we arrived at the scene, we found a 41-year-old man lying near the water without a pulse or breathing, after local citizens found him in the cistern and pulled him out. Together with ‘Rescue Team’ paramedic Naftali Sofer and other medics immediately began to perform advanced resuscitation operations on him, including heart massages, breathing and administering life-saving drugs. Unfortunately, after a long time, the MDA paramedics had to pronounce him dead on the spot.”

Yehiel Stern, an emergency medical medic of the Rescue Union, said: “Citizens pulled him from the mikvah pool. I performed advanced and prolonged resuscitation operations with the help of other volunteers from the motorcycle unit of the Rescue Union and other volunteers who live close to the scene – in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the end of my efforts The resuscitation”.
