Marcos Ballester is a professor of medicine and heads the gynecological and breast surgery department of the Diaconesses Croix Saint-Simon hospital group in Paris. He pleads for the creation of centers specializing in the complex management of this disease.

LE FIGARO. – Ovarian cancer is uncommon. What are its main symptoms?

Pr Mark BALLESTER. – Ovarian cancer is indeed a rare disease, with approximately 5,000 new cases per year in France. Unfortunately, it is a pathology that remains silent for a long time and only becomes symptomatic when it is locally advanced. The patient may then present with abdominal pain, an increase in the volume of the abdomen, transit disorders, deterioration in general condition, fatigue, weight loss, weight loss. The disease mainly affects postmenopausal women, but not exclusively.
