The superstar left Barca; Now the playing field is for Atlético
Barcelona sold French superstar Antoine Griezmann to Atletico. The player had been playing on a loan deal at Atletico for two years.
The player came to Barcelona in 2019 on a five-year contract. Barcelona acquired Griezmann for a transfer fee of 120 million euros. But the star was unable to excel in Barca and returned to Atlético.
The star, who joined Atletico on a two-year loan in August 2021, played two seasons at Camp Nou.
It was previously reported that Atletico could only keep Griezmann in 50% of his available matches. The report also stated that if the criteria were met, the club would have the option to buy the player, but if the club decided not to activate the buyout clause, Griezmann could return to the Camp Nou.
Atletico have acquired Griezmann from Barca on a permanent contract as his contract with the club is about to expire. Atletico Barca will pay 20 million euros and add-ons to acquire the player.
According to the contract, the club had to pay 40 million euros to Barca. But after negotiations, it was reduced to half. Griezmann’s decision was to stay at Atletico.
French star Antoine Griezmann started his football career in 2009 with Real Sociedad. In the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, the player has scored 52 goal scoring attempts including 35 goals with 17 assists in 102 matches with Barcelona. Griezmann has scored 141 goals and assisted 53 goals in 276 appearances for Atletico so far.
