The San Marino Air Force Base has made a trip to Urom to show its support for Pope Francis’ global peace mission and to stop the escalation of war in Ukraine.

On October 8, this morning, 5 small light aircrafts departed from Torache Airport and landed at Urom Airport. From there, San Marino’s top pilots, the secretary and the Holy See’s ambassador, Maria Alessandra Albertini, all met the Pope at the Vatican.

Invented to bring people and cultures together, not to bring weapons and destruction, this aircraft system “makes it possible to overcome the distance between people, helps to share cultures between countries, and helps to reach remote places to save human lives,” said Maria Luisa Berti of San Marino.

San Marino, a 37-year-old aviation organization with 100 shareholders, was founded in 1985 at quatro querce in Torracce by a group of aeronautical enthusiasts. Originally operating as a mail airline between San Marino and Italy, the airline began operations in 1986 as a flight training school.

The aircraft operates in a cooperative manner with the Civil Defense and Civil Police for aerial surveillance, emergency rescue, public order photography and aerial shooting.
