Dubai: Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman will replace Rahul Dravid as head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This was confirmed by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. Rahul Dravid has resigned from the NCA after he agreed to take over as the coach of the Indian senior team.

‘None other than VVS’

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah want VVS Laxman to head the NCA. But the final decision rests with VVS. Lakshman is considered for the top post. His special friendship with the new coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid, cannot be forgotten. They are the perfect pair to lead Indian cricket. BCCI sources had earlier told ANI that it was invaluable for the players to come forward to nurture a new generation of players.

Dravid said it was a great recognition

‘Appointing Team India as the new coach is a great honor. The team under Ravi Shastri performed well. The belief is that it can continue to move forward. He has worked with most of the current players at the National Cricket Academy, at the Under-19 level and on the A team. “Everyone is a player who is eager to hone his talent,” Dravid had earlier said.

The coaching staff headed by Ravi Shastri resigned with the T20 World Cup. With this, Dravid, who is also a former captain, was selected by the BCCI advisory council comprising RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik. Dravid will take over as coach in the T20 and Test series against New Zealand later this month following the T20 World Cup. Team India will play two Tests and three T20s against the Kiwis.
