Palladam: Petition submitted to Tahsildar Nandagopal, President of Social Activists Federation, Annadurai:

According to the 1982 ordinance of the Department of Labor and Employment, name boards of shops and commercial establishments must be in Tamil.

If other languages are to be used, then Tamil should be used first and then other languages should be used secondly. Moreover, correct Tamil words should be used. Shop owners and business establishments do not follow the ordinance.

We examined the name boards at places like Palladam Trichy Road, NGR, Road etc. Out of that, not even 10 percent name boards are in mother tongue Tamil. Also, most of the shops and commercial establishments have their name boards completely in English.

If this is the situation in municipal level shops, what is the situation in developed cities like Tirupur? The local bodies, which are supposed to prevent this, do not notice this.

Steps should be taken to change the name boards in English to Tamil as per the decree.

He said this.
