Gideon Sa’ar attacks colleague Amit Segal: “This is charlatanism”

by time news

Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar was invited last night (Saturday) to meet the press, during the interview a particularly heated discussion developed between him and one of the presenters of the program – Amit Segal. The debate began after the Minister of Justice accused the members of the opposition of attacking and endangering the justice system. To this Segal replied: “Why is Gideon Sa’ar allowed and Aryeh Deri not allowed? Because you are a state right?” This immediately after Segal brought quotes from the past in which Sa’ar himself attacked the judicial system.

To this Sa’ar replied: “I have never changed my mind. I have always been in favor of the overcoming clause as part of the basic law of the legislation.” Segal added and brought other examples in which Sa’ar spoke out against the justice system. Then Sa’ar said: “It’s an act of charlatanism,” and explained: “I’m against judicial activism. But they don’t want to eliminate judicial activism. They want to eliminate the judiciary as an independent authority in the State of Israel.”

Only recently did the Minister of Justice refer to another storm that occupied the legal world – the disqualification of Amichai Shikli. “The chorus of the opposition lashing out at a fellow judge for his decision in the Shikli case is further evidence of the systematic and brutal attempt to tame the judicial system into giving only decisions that serve them,” Sa’ar wrote on Twitter. He added that: “The law that the Knesset itself enacted – they are not interested. The independence of the judiciary is in clear and immediate danger if Netanyahu’s bloc of parties has a majority in the next Knesset.”
