Seine-Maritime: the department affected by a “large-scale” computer attack

by time news

The facts are disturbing. This Monday, the department of Seine-Maritime was affected by a “major computer attack”, said the community in a press release.

Faced with this situation, the authorities decided to “completely cut off the networks of the department” temporarily, in order to “isolate, secure and sanctuary the community”. The impact is necessarily significant for the department’s services.

Degraded services

Some of them are operating normally, but it is currently impossible to submit files online for the Personalized Autonomy Allowance (APA) or for the Disability Compensation Benefit (PCH), details the Department. “Physical reception is, on the other hand, possible in our 89 medico-social centers”, specifies the community.

The services of the Maternal and Child Protection (PMI) are, for their part, “normally insured”, and there is no impact on the computer operation of the colleges of Seine-Maritime, specifies France Bleu. In addition, telephone lines are not affected.

“All measures are implemented to assess the damage, protect user data and restore our ability to act,” says the statement. A complaint has already been filed and the CNIL (National Commission for Computing and Liberties) has been seized, specifies the site actu.fr. The department now hopes that the investigation will succeed in discovering the origin of the attack.

This is not the first time that Normandy has suffered this kind of problem. At the end of September, it was the computer services of the city of Caen (Calvados) which had been affected by a cyberattack.
