Eran Zahavi celebrates (Itzik Blanitsky)

Eran Zahavi broke almost every possible goal record in Israeli football and this evening (Monday), he reached a new peak on the way to another impressive milestone: thanks to the goal he scored against Hapoel in the 80th minute, the Maccabi Tel Aviv star equaled Shia Glazer as the all-time Tel Aviv derby goalscoring king.

Zahavi, who until the current goal scored one goal in the Premier League this season, reached 11 goals in derby games, nine of which were in Maccabi’s uniform, while two were in Hapoel’s uniform.

The most memorable goals are of course from the unforgettable 2:3 in the derby in 2014, when Zahavi scored a huge hat trick that gave the Yellows a dramatic victory in extra time. By the way, Zahabi has 12 goals if you count the goal he scored on a penalty kick before the derby blew up in the 2014/15 season, although this goal is not counted in the statistics since the game did not come to an end following the memorable Fouad incident.
