New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Kerala government to respond to the petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate seeking transfer of the gold smuggling case from Kerala to the Karnataka court.

Kerala is ruled by the Left Democratic Front led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who belongs to the Marxist Communist Party. In 2020, gold worth 15 crore rupees was seized from Emirates Dutraka ‘parcels’ which arrived by air from West Asian country United Arab Emirates to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

In this connection, former deputy employee Swapna Suresh, Sandeep Nair from Bangalore, former secretary of Kerala Chief Minister M. Sivashankar and many others were arrested.

The Enforcement Directorate, the National Investigation Agency and the Customs Department have registered a case separately. In this kidnapping case, statements have been made that not only the top officials of the Kerala government but also Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are involved.

Subsequently, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Enforcement Department requesting to transfer the case from the Kerala court to the Karnataka court.

A bench comprising Chief Justice U.U.Lalith and S.R. Bhatt examined this petition and ordered the Kerala government to respond in this regard. Due to this, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is in crisis.
