  • In 1997, Salcedo quit his job as a finance manager and has since spent his life on luxury cruises.

  • He has more or less completely lost his friends and acquaintances on land.

  • He only goes ashore in Miami every few weeks for a few hours – before embarking on the next voyage.

Former finance manager Mario Salcedo has been traveling the ocean on cruise ships for decades. He was recently presented with an award by the Royal Caribbean cruise line, to which he has been loyal for more than 20 years. On board the ships he has long been known as “Super Mario” – he has more than 1050 cruises and more than 7300 nights at sea behind him, like the “mirror” writes.

Very healthy since termination

By the time he was in his late twenties, he had vowed to himself: “By the time I’m 45, I’ll be living full-time on cruise ships.” At that time he was still in the middle of his “lucrative job” as finance director of a multinational company. In 1997 he resigned and made his dream come true.

In his previous life as a financial manager, he worked far too much and only took two weeks of vacation a year. Since he switched his life to the cruise ships and stopped work, he has been doing much better. He hadn’t been sick once since he’d been living on the cruise ships, according to the “Spiegel”.

Every morning, Salcedo sets up his office on the pool deck with a laptop and manages the investment portfolios of a handful of wealthy private clients. Otherwise, he smokes cigars and mingle with the passengers over a few drinks in the evening.

6000 per month for luxury living

The native Cuban only goes ashore for a few hours every few weeks to get things ready for the next one in his condominium in Miami cruise to pack, as the “Spiegel” reports. Salcedo is said to spend 6,000 dollars a month for his life on the high seas and his lifestyle is also not helpful for the climate balance. In addition, he has meanwhile lost practically all friends and acquaintances from the mainland, he can hardly stand on land anymore because he is no longer used to solid ground. Nevertheless, he says: “I feel blessed”.
