The South African cricket team toured India for a series of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The team lost 2-1 in the first 3-match T20 series to prepare for the World Cup and won the first match of the ODI series to take an early lead. But India responded brilliantly in the 2nd match to level the series. So the 3rd match to decide the winner of the series which was tied 1-1 was held on October 11th in the capital Delhi.

INd vs SA Shubman Gill Dhawan

After India won the toss and announced that they would bowl first, South Africa could not respond to the quality delivery of the Indian bowlers from the start and lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 99 runs in 27.1 overs. Quinton de Kock 6, Jannemann Malan 15, Henrichs 3, Markram 9, David Miller 7 were out for few runs and Henrich Clausen scored 34 (42) with 4 fours. Kuldeep Yadav took the maximum 4 wickets for India.

Miserable failure:
Chasing an easy target of 100, skipper Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 8 (12) and Ishan Kisan, who came in next, cheated for 10 (18). However, on the other hand, Subman Gill, another outstanding opener, sealed the win and was dismissed for 49 (57) with 8 boundaries and returned to the pavilion in disappointment. In the end, Shreyas Iyer scored 28* (23) as India scored 105/3 in 19.1 overs and won by 7 wickets. So the young Indian team proved themselves to be the best at home and won the trophy after defeating South Africa 2 – 1 (3) without key players including Rohit Sharma.

David Miller

Having ended the tour with such a defeat, South Africa returned to the country for the first time in its history to perform a rare event for the fans. In other words, the captain of the team in this series, Thempa Bauma, was slightly injured in the first match in Lucknow, so vice-captain Keshav Maharaj acted as the captain in the second match in Ranchi. In the 3rd match held in Delhi, Keshav Maharaj withdrew due to a slight physical condition while Bauma was not fully recovered.

As a result, promising star player David Miller was captained in the 3rd match. This is the first time in the last 51 years of ODI cricket since 1971 that 3 different players have captained a team in all 3 matches of a 3-match series. Earlier in Test cricket, South Africa used 3 different captains for the first time in a 3-match series against Australia in 1902.

Then in 1930, the West Indies team used 4 different captains in the 4-match Test series against England. Since then, even in Test cricket, such an event has not taken place in ODI cricket, so South Africa has also earned the distinction of being the first team to use 3 captains in a series in ODI cricket.

Because of this, 3 different South African players came to throw the toss with Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan in each match. Ex-Indian player Wasim Jafar has made fun of it by posting an old video of a famous Bollywood actor calling his fans and taking pictures.
