The exhibitors of the Strasbourg Christmas market have received by email a list of products “prohibited” for sale. Among these products, we can find champagne and grilled chicken or even caps and umbrellas. It was set up by the “Strasbourg Capitale de Noël” commission, made up of elected officials and representatives Guillaume Libsig, deputy in charge of associative life and urban activities at the City of Strasbroug, explained Tuesday, October 11 to France Bleu Alsace, that the “objective is to develop the notion of authenticity.”

In addition to prohibited products, some will be authorized “with reservations” : hot dogs, Turkish delights or JC Crosses (crucifixes) and bottle openers. “All these products are authorized for sale but the members of the commission will go to see the traders in the chalets to try to understand the intention, the origin, if it works with the customers or not”continues Guillaume Libsig.

Sassi Ben-Mourdi, representative of fairground industrialists, told France Bleu Alsace that “Usually each merchant sends a list and the products are validated or not.” Sassi Ben-Mourdi also denounces inconsistencies such as the ban on selling raclette. It must be replaced by a “Munstiflette“. On Facebook, the mayor of Reims, Arnaud Robinet shared his astonishment: “I believed in information from Gorafi. But no! Champagne is prohibited on the Strasbourg Christmas market! (…) It’s appalling!”

The Strasbourg Christmas market will start on Friday November 25, 2022. The complete list of products labeled “prohibited” or authorized “subject to restrictions”:
