Chennai,

Ramadoss, the founder of BAMA, said that the government should take steps to make the procedures for issuing caste certificate simple and refined. In this regard, he has said in his Twitter post:-

Velmurugan, a young tribal belonging to the Malayan community, committed suicide by setting himself on fire in the Madras High Court complex due to the frustration of not getting a caste certificate. Deepest condolences to his bereaved family.

This is the second suicide in the last 100 days due to non-availability of tribal caste certificate. Before this, on July 4th, an old man named Periyaswamy committed suicide in the office of District Collector due to not getting the Kondareddy caste certificate.

Both Kondareddy and Malaikurvar castes are at 12 and 23 places respectively in the tribal list. While there is a rule that caste certificate should be issued within one month of application, denial of caste certificate is the cause of suicides.

A suicide should not happen again because of non-availability of tribal caste certificate. Keeping this in mind, the government should take steps to make the procedures for issuing caste certificate simple and refined!” he said.
