Mudugulathur: A month ago, the devotees kept a fast for the Puratasi Pongal and Kalari festival of Vazhavanta Amman Temple near Mudugulathur. Abhishekam and special pujas were performed to the goddess daily.

As a special event, in front of the Murugan temple, more than 100 devotees paid their debts by piercing their bodies with chilakuthi for the good of the world, for the monsoon to fall and for the prosperity of agriculture.

21 types of abhishekam, including turmeric, milk, sandalwood, liquid powder, and special pooja were performed for the goddess Vazhavantha Amman. Villagers used to pay Pongal and fined their debts.
