Reportedly, wife Camilla Kohinoor will not wear the crown at the coronation of Britain’s Prince Charles. The Daily Mail reports that this is due to political uproar over the Kohinoor crown. The crown consists of 105 carat Kohinoor gem along with 2800 diamonds. Many countries, including India, have claimed the Kohinoor gem.

The initial reports were that after Queen Elizabeth’s death, the crown would go to Prince Charles’ wife Camilla and Camilla would wear it at the coronation ceremony. Discovered in India in the 14th century, the Kohinoor diamond has been passed down through the centuries. The Kohinoor diamond is currently set in a platinum crown made for Queen Elizabeth for the coronation of King George VI in 1937.

Queen Elizabeth has passed away, who will wear the famous Kohinoor crown?

In 1849, Queen Victoria received the Kohinoor Gem after the British conquered Punjab. Prince Charles will be crowned on May 6 next year. According to reports, the coronation ceremony will be held in a mixture of traditional and modern methods. The gem has been in India since 1813, although there is some debate as to where exactly it came from. Britain acquired this gem in 1849. In 1855, the Sikh ruler Duleep Singh handed over this gem to Queen Victoria. In addition to India, the Kohinoor Gem is disputed between Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the Taliban.
