Thiruvalla: On Tuesday morning, Soman received a phone call from the police when he was standing at the Edattva hospital. ‘You should reach Aranmula police station immediately. It is necessary.’

There is no police in Central Thiruvithamkur that does not know Soman and no police station does not know Soman. Soman tirelessly picks up the rotting corpses while everyone else is slaughtered. The police will remain on hand until the post-mortem is completed. Usually the policemen will tell Soman the truth when called. It didn’t happen on Tuesday.

Realizing that something was confidential, Soman reached Aranmula around ten o’clock. From there to Ilantur.

“Things will be known when you reach the field where the double human sacrifice took place. More news came out while digging. When I came to know that two women were cut into pieces and hidden, I froze,” said Soman.

For 34 years, Soman has been assisting the police in picking up decomposing bodies. Around 4100 dead bodies have been recovered so far. There are many incidents including murder. There was no disgust or boredom. Soman said that the more he dug the hole in Ilantur, the more numb he felt.

The body parts were removed with great care. The work lasted for more than 10 hours. During this time only water is food. Fifty-two-year-old Soman is a Kumtumbang member of Kanjiramala in Tiruvalla Palliekara.
