The technology giant from the city of Redmond, Washington yesterday opened its annual developer conference, Ignite, by announcing a new series of devices from the Surface family, which was first launched exactly ten years ago (ie in October 2012).

The original device in the series, Surface Pro, has a ninth edition that comes with a more rounded aluminum body, reminiscent of the design of Apple’s tablets – except that on the back side there is a ventilation channel around the edges and built-in feet that can be used to place the tablet at almost any possible angle.

The Surface Pro 9 has a 13-inch touch screen, with a bit of 120 Hz refresh and the touch pen technology of the Israeli startup N-Trig, which Microsoft purchased in 2015 for $30 million. The pen itself is quite small, and is stored in a magnetic compartment in the tablet’s detachable keyboard cover, which allows it to be used like a laptop and includes almost full-size keys and a large touchpad.

The most interesting detail is the processor: the new multifunction computer comes with either a processor from Intel’s new Core i series (12th generation), or with a Qualcomm SQ3 processor that was created especially for Microsoft and includes 5th generation cellular connectivity and a battery life of up to 19 hours – so far , computers with such processors could never be called “pro”, since they do not allow regular use of programs that Windows users are used to. We still need to check if this time it actually changed.

More in-

Microsoft’s traditional laptop series, which was first introduced in 2015, also gets a slight update in the form of the Surface Laptop 5, which comes with a 13.5 or 15-inch screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio, an Intel Core i-12 series processor, a quiet keyboard , large touch pad, touch screen and USB-A, USB-C and headphone connections.

The company also introduced an updated version of the Surface Studio, its designed desktop computer for graphic designers and video editors, which was introduced in 2017 and includes a central “lying” unit from which two arms stick out that hold the huge 28-inch touch screen with a 3:2 ratio, which can be raised and lowered and tilt up and down. The second generation of the computer comes with an Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 30600 graphics accelerator.
