In a few years, the Netherlands will be able to start using MDMA on a doctor’s prescription

by time news

My pupils, yes they are out. Because I took 1,2,3,4 pills. “Nice, well kept on your cure.” The doctor wouldn’t say it anytime soon, but that might change. Politics and drug research join forces.

In a few years, on a doctor’s prescription, going out of your socket for a weekend at ADE? It may soon be possible. Wouldn’t it be nice if the tickets for pill parties could soon be declared to the health insurance company?

MDMA as a medicine

Small-scale research is already being done in the Netherlands into the use of MDMA, the active ingredient in XTC, as a medicine. There is interest from politicians, because today the House is talking with experts about the therapeutic and medical use of psychedelics.

One of the experts who will update the House today is Tijmen Bostoen. He works as a psychiatrist at ARQ center. Bostoen has been researching the effect of MDMA in therapeutic sessions since 2016. In 2016 he met Rick Doblin, an American scientist who has been researching the use of the substance as a medicine since the 1980s.

Research on MDMA

Doblin’s research results seemed like an ‘American Dream’. It was almost too good to be true. But Bostoen said yes to MDMA and started his own research. And here, too, the results were phenomenal. Patients who were no longer working were now better able to look at themselves because of the drugs.

The research of the Dutch pill doctor is funded by the American foundation of Doblin. Bostoen would therefore like to see money made available in the Netherlands so that the research can be deepened.

Recreational tapping

The psychiatrist emphasizes that the use of MDMA in medicine and the recreational use of the drug are completely different. One uses it in a controlled environment and under strict supervision. Where ravers flicker one pill after another in the party scene.

The psychiatrist is therefore not available for recreational tapping. Festival tickets and pills reimbursed by your health insurance? It remains a dream.
